Dujka Smoje. Musicologist, mediaevalist, teacher, b Split, Yugoslavia, 7 Apr 1941, naturalized Canadian 1973; diploma in musicology (Sarajevo) 1963, certificat d'études supérieures history of music (Paris) 1964, certificat d'études supérieures history of the Middle Ages (Poitiers) 1966, doctorat musicology (Poitiers) 1967. She studied at the Music Academy of the University of Sarajevo (1959-63) and at the Institut de musicologie of the University of Paris. Afterwards, she worked under the guidance of Solange Corbin at the University of Poitiers. In 1967, she settled in Montreal where she was hired as librarian at the Institut médiéval of the University of Montreal, also becoming a professor at the Faculty of music that same year. As a researcher, her studies have centred on mediaeval music, paleography, iconography and musical aesthetics. Dujka Smoje has published Qu'est-ce qu'une oeuvre musicale? (Paris 1989), a critical translation, plus an essay, of a work by Roman Ingarden. Recipient of several Canada Council grants, she is the author of numerous articles and she has lectured extensively. Among her other achievements is a 13-course series for television entitled 'Les Sources de la musique occidentale', broadcast on Radio Québec in 1990.
